Disney To Offer a Lower Cost Tier With Ads

To save TV streamers and cord cutters money, Disney announced a new ad-supported tier for its popular Disney+ Streaming service.

Lower Cost Disney+ With Ads

Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution Chairman, Kareem Daniel broke the news on The Hollywood Reporter, recently.

“Expanding access to Disney+ to a broader audience at a lower price point is a win for everyone — consumers, advertisers, and our storytellers,” Daniel said. “More consumers will be able to access our amazing content. Advertisers will be able to reach a wider audience, and our storytellers will be able to share their incredible work with more fans and families.”

When will It Launch?

Disney has not yet announced a date when their new ad-supported streaming plan will launch. They do expect it to launch sometime later, in 2022 in the USA, and worldwide in 2023. And once available, it joins other popular streaming services like Hulu, (Which Disney also Owns.) Along with HBO Max, and Peacock+.

Netflix has also toyed with the idea of ads, but so far has not implemented them on their streaming platform.

Adding another lower cost tier, will help Disney boost their subscribers even further. At last count, 75 million have already subscribed in the U.S. and another 221 million worldwide.

Free Streaming Channels for Cord Cutters on a Budget

While Disney+ with ads cost less than their ad-free counterparts. It's getting more difficult to find content all in one place. Now to watch the same content we used to on Netflix, we need to subscribe to three or four services. But it's easy to start and stop streaming services, so you don't need to pay for more than one at a time.

There are also many free channels that contain ads, like these which you can watch on today's popular media players. There are also many Internet streaming sites that also offer free content that can be cast or mirrored on Roku, or other media streamers like Apple TV which don't contain a web browser.
