How to Factory Reset an Nvidia SHIELD






There may come a time when a SHIELD owner is faced with needing to factory reset an Nvidia SHIELD. 

Maybe it's due to a firmware update that went bad, or you want to sell it and wipe all your data. Performing a factory restore brings everything back to the same state as the first time you started up the SHIELD.

Warning Before You Factory Reset Nvidia SHIELD Warning!

Once you perform a hard reset on your SHIELD, all your data, any installed apps, and performance mods added will all be erased. You will need to add everything back again after the factory reset has completed.

Also, you will no longer be able to connect your gamepad or remote using their onscreen instructions. Instead, you need to follow these instructions that Nvidia posted: http://shield.nvidia.com/connect

If your SHIELD is a Pro model with a 500GB internal drive, this process can take up to 2/hours to complete. Non-hard drive models won't take very long to restore.

PERFORM A NVIDIA SHIELD FACTORY RESET USING THE SETTINGS MENU


This is the easiest method to reset a SHIELD to factory new settings. Just follow these steps:

1. From the SHIELD Home screen, navigate to the Settings menu. It can be quickly accessed from the upper right corner of your screen.

2. Select Device Preferences

3. Select Reset. Then choose "Erase everything" to confirm to begin a complete factory reset of your SHIELD.
