Android TV Users Installed YouTube 50 Million Times
Always treated like a stepchild of Android by Google, Android TV has never received the same kind of attention than their Android phone OS.
But even this seems like it may be about to change since Google is getting ready to release an Android TV media streamer of their own.
It seems the streaming TV community has adopted Android TV more than we though if this news from Google is any indication to it's wide spread popularity.
With 50 million YouTube apps installed for Android TV, this really speaks volumes for the popularity of this operating system.
An Enhanced Version of Android for Android Media Streamers
Because Android TV was built for televisions and comes with a Lean Back Launcher. It makes it easy to navigate from the couch using only a remote control.
Many of the cheaper Android clone boxes from China run the mobile Android OS, this makes the interface more clunky. Users are often needing to fumble between a remote, a mouse and sometimes a combination of a track pad and keyboard to navigate the software.
Only a Few Companies Adopted Android TV as their Operating System of Choice
The Nvidia SHIELD TV media streamer was a game changer when it was released. The Tegra X1 processor was and still is ahead of it's time. It's generations ahead of Rockchip and Amlogic processors found on cheap Android clones.
Only one clone maker adopted Android TV with any large scale success and that was Mi with their Mi Box S 4K streamer. It cost a third of a Nvidia SHIELD, but performance wise it doesn't come close.
Google tried early on with an Android TV box of their own. It never caught on but maybe their next model to be released sometime in 2020 will have better luck.
Here's Why the 50 Million Android TV User Base Would Be Such An Impressive Number
Roku, who makes one of the most popular media streamers has reported a 36 million active streamers in the first quarter of 2020.
Amazon who sells the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick claims they have 40 million active users.
Up until now, Google has been quiet about their Android TV installed user base. With Google releasing the information that their Android TV user base is 50 Million strong, this trounces both Roku and Amazon.
Bet they never saw that coming... But to be fair, some Android TV users may own several Android TV devices and this would make the user base not quite as high overall. But it's still an impressive number all the same.
