Evoca Pay-TV on ATSC 3.0 May Launch Sooner Than Expected

“We initially planned to expand past Boise market by market in Q2 and beyond by rolling up [purchasing] some low power stations in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets,” he says. “But over the past six months, we’ve gotten a lot of interest from other broadcasters wanting to roll out the Evoca service in their markets on their extra sticks.”

While the company has declined to mention which broadcasters were interested, discussions are currently ongoing with broadcasters in markets outside of Bosie.

Edge Networks is currently beta testing in the Bosie area. Testers received an ATSC 1.0 and ATSC 3.0 extrnal tuner. Along with an over the air antenna to access their content.

Evoca recently was the first to lauch in the Bosie market 24/7 4K OTA 3.0 content. They are among the first to do so nationwide. Beta testers are only being charged $20 which is less than 50% from the final price which is going to cost approximately $49/month and will contain 80+ live TV channels.

With no streaming box or high-speed broadband needed, this will bring an entirely new way of watching premium TV content for consumers who may not have fast Internet available. But by using an antenna, they can switch between ATSC 1.0 and 3.0 programming easily. And watch premium content using only their antenna and a compatible ATSC 3.0 tuner.

Once the new ATSC 3.0 Standard is more widely implemented. It's not unreasonable to guess that at some point we see free ad supported content providers from Tubi, and Roku begain to offer their content as well.

This will greatly open up their content well beyond traditional streaming TV, and instead make it available to rural customers which in the past still relied heavily on cable TV, and satellite as their primary form of televsion entertainment.
