There are many media streamers to choose from. But Roku, the little company from Los Gatos California. Blew past previous records and created new ones during a time of national and global lockdowns.
With many more people not only living in but also working from their homes, TV streaming and cord-cutting around the world has intensified. Roku now has doubled the number of active users than Comcast has cable TV subscribers. This is incredible in itself considering that Comcast was once a former industry giant in traditional cable TV programming.
Roku not only has increased the number of their new subscribers but also broke new records for the number of hours streamed from a huge list of Roku channels available on the Roku platform, and also from their own house streaming channel The Roku Channels.
Both segments exploded last year with Roku now reporting they have 51.2 million active user accounts. Their stock this past year also broke new records and has seen a stunning climb also breaking new records.

2020 was a very good year for Roku. In the last quarter alone they added more than 5 million new users. They captured a 38% market share of all smart TVs sold last year.
And users on the Roku platform streamed a record-breaking 58.7 billion hours in 2020 which increased by 55% from 2019, with an average of 3.8 hours streamed each day per user account. Advertising on Roku has also returned to pre-COVID levels.
Roku Now Has All Major Content Providers On Their Streaming Platform
This past year it took a while for Roku to make deals with major content providers like HBO and Peacock, but that is behind them and their content is now available.
Something not often talked about is Private Roku adult channels. These channels also helped contribute to Roku's popularity and success as a media streaming company. Roku has more adult channels available than all others. This has made watching adult movies on a large screen television so much easier.

The company also recently announced they are possibly looking into adding original content made specifically for their channel. Much like AppleTV+ and Amazon have done on their streaming services.
If this happens, Roku could see another record-shattering year of growth in 2021.
