Piper Sandler's Survey "Taking Stock with Teens" Shows Teens Flocking to Netflix and Away From YouTube
For a while there Teens could not get enough of YouTube, but how quickly fads and trends can change. Now Netflix has teens TV streaming attention.
This 2X a year survey shows that Teens prefer using Netflix 34% to 32% who use YouTube. And this is the second survey in a row now where this has been the case.
Last fall things were different, YouTube actually was ahead in teen viewers at 37% to Netflix which had 35% of teens using their site. But COVID must have made a difference, because Netflix subscriptions went through the roof when the shutdown hit most of the world hard.
Last quarter Netflix's global subsiber count reached 193 million users. With the company offering more programming targeted at teens. It's a trend that will likely continue for the forseeable future.
YouTube may have peaked in popularity for Teens. Especially when they see more of their friends talking about what they watched on Netflix. Many teens not wanting to feel left out will undoubtedly continue to migrate over to Netflix.
