Why Comcast is So Opposed to Biden's Infrastructure Bill

Why is Comcast so opposed to Biden's infrastructure bill? 😳

Comcast opposed to Biden's infrastructure bill

With Comcast sending emails to customers, asking them to contact their representatives and oppose Biden's infrastructure bill one has to wonder what they have to lose.

Many Republicans, and Democrats during the COVID crisis have watched work habits of millions of Americans change. No longer were many of them driving back and forward to work. Instead, many were and still are working from home. This has dramatically shifted the way Americans worked at their jobs.

So they concluded that just maybe our internet infrastructure should also be included as infrastructure also, and upgraded accordingly. Because all those Zoom calls, and streaming video require significantly more bandwidth than working on Word docs and Excel files in an office setting where faster broadband is usually not an issue.

The big problem Comcast has with this plan is that they have a monopoly on much of the broadband infrastructure. And much of this is privately owned by Comcast, Spectrum and only a few other companies. Therefore, they charge a significant higher bill for what most times amounts to crappy service and lower broadband speeds than much of the rest of the world has access too.

Bloomberg reported that both Comcast and Spectrum serve approximately two-thirds of U.S. homes who have broadband Internet and they are very much opposed to any more competition.

In a truly competitive free market, rather than a monopoly which came about from a lack of regulations on broadband providers. Which is what happens, when rich corporations donate tons of money and spend money on lobbyists to grease the palms of politicians.

Comcast, Spectrum and a few others can competitors out by offering to slightly lower their prices if someone in Washington forces them to or if any other competition comes along which threatens to encroach on their territory.

They will lower their price just enough where a competing company can't recoup the costs of the competing and needed infrastructure where a payback would take too long, or it just makes little sense from an economical standpoint.

The more governments and utilities who invest in publicly owned high-speed fiber broadband Internet infrastructure, the more difficult it will be for broadband companies like Comcast to gouge the hell out their customers.

Now you know why Comcast wants their customers to shut down the Biden's infrastructure bill which would make affordable broadband more readily accessible especially in rural communities.
